Duane A. Smith, 86, of Dumas died Sunday June 22, 2014. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dumas Cemetery. Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Dumas.

DUMAS — Duane A. Smith, 86, of Dumas died Sunday, June 22, 2014.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Dumas Cemetery with Jim Mallory officiating. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post No. 224. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 500 N. Maddox Ave.
Duane was born Feb. 21, 1928, in Snyder. He moved to Dumas in 1943. He was postal employee until April 1983, when he retired. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a longtime member of the Sixth and Meredith Church of Christ.
He married Este Lee Alexander in 1948 in Lawton, Okla. Duane married Thelma Hutchison in 1970 in Amarillo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Este Lee, and their daughter, Denise in 1968; his parents, Herbert and Lela Smith; three sisters, Polly Mallory, Mary Phillips, Lela Beth Martin; and a brother, Jason Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Smith of Dumas; his daughters, Terry Macomber of Dennison and Sherri Hutchison of St. Louis; his sons, Al Smith of Dumas, Ron Hutchison of Longview and Scott Hutchison of Lubbock; 11 granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Jessie Pearl Smith of White Deer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Sixth and Meredith Church of Christ, 524 S. Meredith Ave, Dumas, TX 79029; Moore County Senior Center: 701 E. 16th St., Dumas, TX 79029; or Window on the Plains Museum, 1820 S. Dumas Ave., Dumas, TX 79029.
