Helen Marie Kuykendall

Mrs. Helen Marie Kuykendall McKee, 89, passed away on January 15, 2018, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point. Mrs. Helen was born on November 24, 1928, in West Point, the daughter of the late Theron Hart and Martha Amelia Lyon Kuykendall. Mrs. Helen was a member of Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church, but attended Pheba Baptist Church. Mrs. Helen was a retired seamstress, having worked at the Monte Glove Company in Pheba. Mrs. Helen was a dish washer and greeter at The Tin Top in Pheba. Mrs. Helen's greatest accomplishment was being a surrogate mother to a number of kids and grandkids. Mrs. Helen married Thurman Osborn “Dutch” McKee on April 27, 1946, and he preceded her in death on August 3, 1992. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son: Donnie Wayne McKee, a grandson: Greg McKee, a granddaughter: Paige McKee, a son-in-law: H.M. Moore, 3 sisters: Mildred Jackson, Mary Hart Holmes, and Ruth Simmons and a brother: William Kuykendall.
Funeral services will be on Friday, January 19, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. from Pheba Baptist Church in Pheba with Reverend Terry Rhodes officiating and assisted by Brother Byron Davis. Burial will follow in the Old Cumberland Cemetery in Webster County. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include 4 daughters: Margie Dean Hodges of Maben, Diane Miles (Ian) of Maben, Vickie Moore of Montpelier, and Martha Gail Stafford (Lewis) of West Point; 4 sons: James Thurman “Jimmy” McKee (Stacy) of Cedar Bluff, Bobby Joe McKee (Jan) of Pheba, Curtis McKee (Melissa) of Pheba and Steve McKee (Janet) of Pheba; 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren: 2 sisters: Barbara Ann Fondren (Roy) of Mathiston and Ginny Fletcher of Biloxi, a brother-in-law: Jerry Jackson of Maben and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Bo McKee, Corey McKee, Lane McKee, Preston McKee, Brent Miles, Wade Miles, Chris McKee, Ashley Hodges, Jarrod Harpole, and Ryan Moore.
Honorary Pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, The Howell Brothers, Bob Washington, Tom Matthews, Belton “Shag” Harpole, Prate Montgomery, Paul Yeatman, Doug Barnett, Phillip Williams, Jim Mills, Jimmy Carol Johnson, Junior Johnson, Mike Pearson, Phil Johnson, Jerry Wray, Matthew Garcia, Chuck Cook, Dr. Edmund A. Miller, Dr. David Irwin, the Doctors and Nurses of North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point, and all of her friends in the Pheba Community.
Memorials may be made to the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital, 2500 N. State Street, Jackson, MS 39216, LeBonheur Children's Hospital, 848 Adams Avenue, Memphis, TN 38103 or to Mississippi Chapter Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home and Friday from 12:30-2:00 P.M. at Pheba Baptist Church.
