Long Beach ~ Mrs. Mary Hart Holmes, age 78, of Long Beach passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011.
She was born in Maben, MS on August 15, 1933 and was a graduate of Pheba High School in Pheba, MS. She worked at the Sunflower Grocery Store in Long Beach and for USM in the Cafeteria. She also worked as a day care worker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Long Beach, and volunteered at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, where she was named volunteer of the year. She also volunteered at the Harrison County Courthouse.
Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her parents, Theron Hart Kuykendall and Martha Amelia Lyon Kuykendall; her brother, William Kuykendall; and her sister, Ruth Simmons.
She is survived by her husband, Johnnie Edward Holmes of Long Beach; her son, John Edward (Angie) Holmes Jr. of Long Beach and Robert Scott Holmes of Houston, TX; her grandchildren, Nicole Holmes (Jason) Taylor of Pembroke Pines, FL, Nicholas Edward (Christine) Holmes of Gulfport, McKenna Hart Holmes of Houston, TX, and Jacob Shelton of Houston, TX; her sisters, Edith Virginia Fletcher of Biloxi, Mildred (Jerry) Jackson of Cumberland, MS, Helen (Dutch) McKee of Pheba, MS, and Barbara (Roy) Fondren of Mathiston, MS.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, with visitation from 9:00 am until service time, Friday, December 2, 2011 at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, MS. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
