William Allen Hamby Jr.

Funeral service for Mr. William Allen "Billy" Hamby, Jr., 84, of Daviston, will be Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the Mountain Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Jimmy Sprayberry and Randy Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mountain Springs Cemetery. He will lie instate at the Church for one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 8, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Hamby passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Clay County Nursing Home. He was born on April 30, 1929 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama to William Allen Hamby, Sr. and Exa Mabel Nolen Hamby. He was an active member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed traveling, and all sports. He was an Atlanta Braves fan and an avid Alabama fan. He worked for 25 years for the Uniroyal Company in Opelika and was a retired paramedic on EMTACT 8. He also enjoyed flea markets, auctions, and playing Rook.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Oliver (Jeff), of Daviston, Melanie Wilkins (John), of Wadley, Pamela Jones (Larry), of New Site, Melissa Thornton (Lynn), of Daviston; son, Billy Michael Hamby (Nanci), of Dadeville; grandchildren, Austin Oliver, Brittany Sutton (Mitch), Caleb Oliver, Aerial Wilkins, Luke Wilkins, Makayla Wilkins, Peyton Wilkins, Katie Maples, Lynnie Jones, Cole Thornton, Avery Thornton, Isiah Thornton, and Hester Hamby; great-grandchild, Alana Maples; and sister, Nora Lee Pemberton of Alexander City.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Betty Ann Meigs Hamby; his parents; and sister, Larue Cotney.
The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to Mountain Springs Baptist Church 15191 County Road 62 Wadley, AL 36276.
