Amelia Stokes was the daughter of John & Rachel Stokes of Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland. Not much is known of Amelia or her parents, but it is surmised that she was related in some way to the Jeremiah Stokes family of Greenville County, South Carolina. It is also surmised that she may have traveled with the same group of pioneers who came to Pinckney District/Union County, South Carolina in which was also Thomas George Getzendanner.
Amelia was highly respected within the Getzendanner families who were descended from her and Thomas George Getzendanner her husband. There were many who were/are to later carry her name with honor.
