Bernard Mehrtens, 71, well-known rancher of the Lemon Cove-ThreeRivers district, died in his home yesterday after a lingering illnessof heart disease. A native of Comanche, Calaveras county, Mehrtens wasborn on April 13, 1860.
Mehrtens had been a resident of this section of California for 63years, having come here at the age of nine. He was better known amonghis many friends and acquaintances as "barney."
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Fannie A. Mehrtens, two daughters,Miss Mamie Mehrtens and Mrs. Minnie Maxon, and one son, DavidMehrtens, all of Three Rivers, besides the following-named brothersand sisteres;;
James Mehrtens of Three Rivers, William Mehrtens of Orosi, Mrs.Rebecca Hamilton of Yokohl, Mrs. Louise Taylor of Three Rivers andMrs. Tillie Homer of Lemon Cove.
Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral chapel of A. E.Brooks & Son of Visalia at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow, Saturday afternoon.E. R. Connelly of this city will officiate and interment will be inthe family plot in Hamilton cemetery, north of Merryman."
