Obituary in "Passing in Exeter, An Anthology of Exeter's Necrologies" at Exeter Library, is hand dated 1937.
"Mrs. Fannie Mehrten Passes at Stockton -
Mrs. Fannie Mehrten, widow of the late Bernard Mehrten of Three Rivers, died yesterday in a Stockton sanitarium after a lengthly [sic]illness. She was the mother of Mrs. Donald Maxon of Three Rivers.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Brooks and Foor Mortuary in Visalia."

"Funeral Services Set for Tomorrow for Pioneer Woman - Mrs. Fannie Ann Mehrten First White Woman to See Giant Forest -
Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie Ann Mehrten, first white woman to see Giant Forest, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 at the Brooks and Foor Memorial chapel, Rev. E. Rufus Connelly will officiate at the service. Burial is to be in the family plot in the Hamilton cemetery,which is located between Exeter and Woodlake.
Mrs. Mehrten, only daughter of Hale Tharp, discovered [sic] of the Sequoia National park area, died Monday in a Stockton sanitarium. She was 76 years old.
A native California [sic], Mrs. Mehrten was born in Visalia on January 27, 1861. When she was 11 years old her father took her into what is now known as Giant Forest. At that time the trail into the park was dangerous and even Mrs. Tharp never made the trip.
Hale Tharp was the first cattleman to take cattle into the mountain areas now included in the Sequoia National Park boundaries. He owned a large portion of the park area, later selling it to the federal government.
Mrs. Mehrten's brother, Nort Tharp, died last September. He was the first white man to ascend Moro rock. Her husband, Bernard Mehrten, a pioneer Tulare county cattleman, died six years ago.
Survivors include three children, Mrs. Donald Maxon of Lemon Cove, Mamie Mehrten of Lemon Cove, and David N. Mehrten of Lemon cove; a nephew, William Swanson of Three Rivers, and six grandchildren."
