"Former Peru Doctor Dies at Logansport
Peru, Ind. - May 22 - (Tribune Area Special) - Dr. Marvin A..McDowell, 66, former prominent Peru physician, died Monday night athis residence on the grounds of Longcliff State hospital atLogansport, which he had served for the last sixteen years in thecapacity of medical staff member. Death was caused by cerebralthrombosis. He had been ill three months.
Funeral services will be conducted in St. Charles Catholic church hereat 9 a.m. Friday. The body will be returned to Peru Wednesdayafternoon and taken to the residence of Miss Carrie Rhein, a sister ofMrs. McDowell, at 53 East Second street, where it was announced thatviewing would be in order after 7 o'clock Wednesday evening.
Miss Gladys McDowell, secretary of the Peru city school board, asister of the deceased, has been seriously ill at her home here forseveral weeks. Other survivors include the widow; two step-children,Joseph Kreutzer, Of Louisville, Ky., and Virginia Kreutzer, a studentin St. Mary's Academy, South Bend, and a brother, Benson McDowell, ofLewisburg, Pa.
Born in Bunker Hill, the deceased was a son of Dr. and Mrs. HenryMcDowell. A resident of Miami county all his life, he taught school inPeru for several years, and later was associated with the late E. J.Engelage in operation of the City News depot before he entered themedical profession.
After graduation from medical college he practiced his profession inPeru for a number of years, and served as a captain in the army duringWorld War I.
He was married first in 1904 to Leah Cockley, who died in 1924. In1932 he was married to Mrs. Anna (Rhein) Kreutzer, who survives as thewidow.
Dr. McDowell was a member of Logansport Rotary club, the AmericanLegion and Forty & Eight, of Logansport, and the Knights of Columbus,of Peru."
