The marriage license and certificate calls him Cypress T. I had Samuel Cyprus from 1870 census, which says "Saml". His birth date of Sept., 1863, would have still had him at age 6 on date census taken. It is possible there was also a Samuel and Cypress wasn't at home for some reason when the census was taken. Alice Thomas sent me a photo of his gravestone, which says Cypress Tally McDowell. Alice told me in an e-mail that his birthday was 9 Sep 1863.
Alice provided a transcript of a note in the "Western News" Thursday, January 25, 1940. "C. T. McDowell is seriously ill at his home on Lake Creek. Dr. Cairns was called to attend him Sunday."
