As of 14 Jul 2009 I am tentatively adding father and other children of David and Margaret, based on gedcoms. They are not documented, however, and all info needs to be verified as no personal research has been done as of now. Also changed birth years for David and Margaret per the gedcoms. Those are actually more likely following 1830 and 1840 census ages as well as birth years for children.

This may be the Elizabeth that he divorced in 1809.

Another public tree says he married Margaret in Virginia and died 1860 at Laurel Bloomery.

Shoul [sic] this be the case he wishes to draw his pension at Knoxville, the nearest agency to him.
Address Mr. Grace or myself at this place.

Hon. J. E. Heatte (?)
Comr of Pensions Sir.
I have the honor to enclose herewith a power of Attorney executed by David Grace who was a private in Capt. Walkers Company 39th Regt. Infantry war of 1812, an applicant for an Invalid Pension. I would respectfully request that the power may be filed with his application and permission to examine his papers on file.
Very Respectfully,
Your Obdt Servt
C. W. Bennett.

According to the notes on the transmittal letter to me, this is the entire file.

If David's statement in the affidavit about his age was correct, his birth date would be 1769-1771, which is probably not right, since he still had a guardian in 1791.

---------------
I had a birth fact for David of about 1766, but no source and I'm not sure where that came from. The date now entered matches the census information.

A tree at mundio.com, an ancestry group, says that David and Margaret married in Virginia in 1809. B. Robinson of Fort Worth, Texas is the submitter. Wanted to email, but site requires a separate account, with a tree, to do that.

On 8 August 2013, I received an email from Gwen Rogers Woolridge in Texas. She had this:
"Actually what I have is a family journal. My sister and I were there in 2002. I don't know if I copies it from a book or it stood alone. I think by the size it had to be in a binder by its self. "FAMILY JOURNAL OF JOHN S. GRACE & WIFE" A cover sheet with it states "This history was by John S Grace, started May 12, 1903. compiled from original journal which is in possession of Mrs Roanis (John) Grace om Fprt Wprtj. Texas. It is 5 pages with Descendants of Louis Grace attached. 2nd page states I wrote to Aunt Nellie, Uncle David's wife, [David Louis Grace's second wife] in regard to past family history. I quote from her letter - "David Grace. your grandfather, married a Miss Cross in Virginia--had three children--she and he separated, so far as could be learned, because he was unwilling to give up his independent life as Forge Builder and Bloomer. He next married Miss Margaret Scrimshire of English parentage. (His father in law was a Tory in time of the Revolution and subsequent times). It goes on to list their children.

Another place it says In speaking of Aunt Levina (Grace) Worley ---Aunt Nellie says they came to Lebanon, Mo., where her youngest son Joseph Hirsch Worley was mysteriously murdered. Grief over this killed his father, Elias Worley in less than a week. Aunt Lavina has a daughter, Hester (Worley) Cole, also at Lebanon, Missouri." This is also where Elias and Lavinia are buried."

Based on the above, I have added the surname Cross for David's first wife and three unknown children.

"History of Blount County Tennessee From War Trail to Landing Strip 1795-1955 Revised", on page 144, states that Cook's forge was on Nine Mile Creek near Cook's (later Griffitts) Mill at Mint and Matthew Houston's forge. The property that David bought from the Sheriff that was formerly James Scrimshire's property, was on Nine Mile Creek.
