Individual Details
Lewis GRACE
(Abt 1740 - Bet 7 Jun 1777 and 22 Feb 1779)
Footnote.com has a complete muster roll as follows: "A Muster Roll of Capt Isaac Beall's Company of the Fourth Virginia Regiment of Foot, in the Service of the United States Commanded by Colonel Thomas Elliott June 7, 1777" There were 27 Privates listed, including as No. 14, Lewis Grace. Under Remarks it said "Sick at Whippeney". Copy is in file.
"A Guide to Virginia Military Organizations in the American Revolution, 1774-1787", pages 41-44, has information on the 4th Regiment of Foot. It says that the First Company of Captain Isaac Beall, February 10, 1776, Raised in Berkeley. So it appears that Lewis was in Berkeley Co., VA, where his in-laws lived, when he enlisted.
The book "Over the Mountain Men" lists known casualties, but does not include Louis/Lewis Grace. It isn't clear if there were any regular military on the American side or if it was just the militia. Information found at the Family History Library July, 2009, proves that Lewis died before 1780.
