According to Mamie Swanson Clark, Mary was very deaf from the timeMamie first met her in Jan 1900. She later became almost totally deaf.Mamie also said that Mary was a "very difficult, almost dangerousperson who always carried a pistol in her skirt right side pocket -hidden in the folds." Amanda warned Mamie to never suddenly surpriseher mother. Mary was very eccentric and according to Mamie ruinedAmanda's life, as in later years she was never able to leave hermother alone.
Jean Laws notes that Mary Eunice may also have been born in StephensonCo., IL.
