"GEORGE DILLON DIES AFTER ILLNESS THAT LASTED TWO MONTHS - PIONEERAPPLE GROWER OF MILO SUCCUMBS AT HIS HOME HERE -
George Dillon, a Tulare county pioneer, passed away at 2:10 thismorning at his home, 1000 Putnam Avenue, death being due to Bright'sdisease and other ailmentes. Mr. Dillon had been confined to him homesince Thanksgiving.
Besides his widow Mr. Dillon is survived by one son, George H. Dillon,of Milo, and four daughters. Mrs. Frank Niles and Mrs. O. V. Smith ofPorterville, Mrs. Frank Meddick of Milo and Mrs. W. A. Riley ofPorterville. Three brothoers and three sisters also survive. They areDelbert Dillon of Exeter, Alma Dillon of Porterville, Henry Dillon ofLindsay, Mrs. Jos. Green and Mrs. Amanda Johnson of Lindsay and Mrs.Veda McCoy of Springville, the last named being a half-sister.
The funeral will be held from the residence Wwednesday morning at 11o'clock, interment to be in Porterville cemetery. J. C. McCabe will bein charge. Mr. Dillon was a member of the Odd Fellows, which orderwill be in general charge of the services. He was also a member of theCode of Honor, a lodge at Springville.
Mr. Dillon had spent many years of his life in apple culture and wasregarded as an expert in this line. Aapples raised at the Dillon ranchat Milo took first prize at a big show in Chicago a few years ago. Itwas his father who planted the first apples at Milo and the son wasactive in the management of the orchard until a short time before hisdeath. He was a very public spirited man and always showed his applesat the various fairs in the state. Of late years he spent the wintersat a home here and the summes at the ranch which is now in charge ofGeorge H. Dillon.
Mr. Dillon was born in Salt Lake City September 12, 1852, when hisparents were emigrating by ox train from the east to California. Thefamily came to Tulare county, settling on the Kaweah river northeastof Visalia. As a young man Mr. Dillon freighted between Stockton andVisalia and for a time was engaged in business in the county seat. Heleft there for Milo in 1877, where he had lived ever since.
Mr. Dillon was married twice, all the children being by the firstmarriage. He was united in marriage in Visalia to Miss Jane Brooks,whho died in 1894. Ten years ago today he was married to Mrs. Alice L.Harper.
Mr. Dillon was a good husband and father and a good citizen andneighbor and his absence will be keenly felt in a large circle.
