Individual Details
Christopher FOLKERTH
(1808 - 23 Sep 1889)
On 16 Sept 1836, a few months after Hannah's marriage to Christopher Folkerth, Christopher was appointed guardian of the Shoup children . At that time, George W. was 9 years old: Elizabeth M. was 7 years old and Mary Ann was 4 years old. (Montgomery Co. Ohio. Guardianship Case #1415, Doc J -1, P 245.
1850 Ohio Census list the family under Fulcurth.
Christopher's third marriage in 1863 to Elizabeth J. Pennel was in Greene Co. Ohio. Married by W. I. Fee (Vol 3, p 198). Christopher had 3 wives. #1 is unknown. #2 is Hannah Shoup #3 is Elizabeth Pennell (info from Dick Folkerth)
Robinson's History of Greene County; page 304; lists: Falkerth, Christopher,. Miami, 1840; died September 23, 1889, aged eighty-nine. (This is same death date I have, but would indicate Christopher was born in 1800, not 1810?) Christopher's stone at Glen Forest Cemetery in Yellow Springs indicates that he was born in 1808 and based on that I've changed his birth date.
1860 Montgomery Co Ohio census:
Folkerth, Christ (farmer) 50mM
Hannah 54fM
Harrison (farm labor) 19mO
Peirce (farm labor) 17mO
Jane 15fO
Cartz, Mariah 14fO
Buried with Christopher and Eliza Jane at Glen Forest cemetery, is Christopher J. Folkerth 1878-1957, stone says "Son" on it. His father would have been 70 years old when he was born, and it would appear that Eliza is his mother? Need to locate his obituary.
