Mary's will dated 18 Sep 1883, states she was then of Putnam County,Illinois. Daughter Mary E. Surby given $5.00; Children William P. Sherman, Rebecca Weeks, Edward Sherman, John Sherman, Mahala Gallup and Hannah Golden all the rest of her property, to be divided equally. She released her daughters Nancy Surby and Mary E. Surby from the debts they owed her, either individually or jointly with their husbands respectively. She signed her name to the will. All was distributed except $698.18 due Mahala Gallup, as her whereabouts were unknown 6 May 1895. The money was turned over to the County Treasurer of Putnam County. Copies of several pages of probate are in the possession of the author. Other documents included a bill for medical services for $42 for 21 visits dated 29 Oct 1884 by Dr. Clark Black of Sumner Co., KS. Letter stated that he attended Mary Sherman in her last illness. Also on 20 Apr 1886, there was an Affidavit of Non-Residence filed by Nancy A. Surby. It stated she became a non-resident of Illinois since the start of the suit (her vs.executor). No other information on that lawsuit.
