Individual Details
Joseph N. Hershey Bishop
(10 Oct 1791 - 12 Apr 1856)
Joseph Hershey was ordained a minister by 1840 and as a bishop by 1849 in the Mennonite Church, Pequea District. The Biographical Annals of Lancaster County listed six children for Joseph Hershey and Magdalena Rupp, but Henry Hershey listed only three. It may be that the additional three were born after Henry Hershey published his book, or that the Biographical Annals erred.
In 1792 Joseph and his family moved from Dauphin County to Salisbury Township. Part of his property now hosts the Hershey Mennonite Meetinghouse and Cemeteries.
