Joel W. Eikenberry

(22 Feb 1846 - 16 Nov 1928)

Joel Ikenberry fled the Civil War by going to Ohio. In 1868 he moved to Johnson County, Missouri, and in 1869 to Labette County, Kansas. His was the first home built in the Mount Pleasant Township. In 1870 he returned to Missouri and was married in 1871. Joel and his family returned to Labette County in 1875. He laid out the town of Altamont, Kansas. In 1902 Joel went to Montgomery County, and in 1917 he retired to the town of Liberty. Joel was a minister in his church and a farmer. Joel lost his eye sight in 1917.
