Individual Details
Marilyn Ruth Perkins
(8 Mar 1942 - )
"I was born in Hartford, Connecticut and raised in
Thompsonville,
Connecticut which is just two blocks from the Massachusetts line. My family
has resided in New England for centuries and traced back to the Mayflower.
Being a sentimental person, I have always been interested in family history and
photos.
I went to Brainard Elementry and J.C. Higgins Jr. High Schools in
Thompsonville and was also active in Girl Scouts. However, when in the second
grade, I had rheumatic fever which resulted in a rheumatic heart. Because of
the severe winters, we moved in 1955 to La Mesa, California and lived across
the street from Chuck's family. After going steady all through high school, we
were married in April 8, 1961. During high school I was very interested in
becoming a nurse and was president of the Future Nurses Club. Instead of
nursing however, I worked at a lab sorting plankton from September 1960 until
the following November.
On January 7, 1962 our first son, Charles was born.
In May of 1963 we bought our first home. Then on July 6, 1964, Richard was
born. During late May and June of 1966 our family drove across the country
sight seeing and visiting relatives in Minnesota and Connecticut. On April 13,
1968 Julie was born and the following month we moved to a larger home where we
now live... 6345 Badger Lake, San Diego, CA.
In July of 1972 our family took
another cross country trip which we enjoyed. I belong to the Lake Park Women's
Club, the P.T.A., and have been a den mother for four years for Cub Scout Pack
950, and look forward to scouting with our daughter in the future. Our family
enjoys camping out in our big tent, weather permitting. We usually go to the
mountains. I also love cooking and a little gardening.
(Marilyn Houghton, 1974)
(1995) I still enjoy gardening, cooking and reading about pioneer life
and visiting historical places. I love being in the beautiful green mountains,
especially Yosemite, but also enjoy an occasional trip to Las Vegas with family
or friends. I've been a licensed day care provider for 23 years and the "joy"
of our life is our first grandchild born February 18, 1994.
We have various notes about the Houghton family and a very thorough family tree
from my mother's father's side, the Damon's, going back to Connecticut and
Massachusetts to the Mayflower.
One day while reading notes from the Houghton side, I discovered in DAR records
that there was some deja vue. Our daughter Julie's birthday is April 13.
When she was a few years old we found that Chuck's great grandmother's name was
Julia, born on April 13, and her mother was 26 years old when she was born,
same as I was when I had Julia. Sure was strange to read that.
