Mr. and Mrs. Renk Eilers.
Mrs. and Mrs. Renk Eilers, of Monticello, are celebrating their golden wedding today, through the medium of a surprise organized by their five sons, and one daughter. Both Mr. and Mrs. Eiler were born in Hanover, Germany. Both came to the United States when very young. Renk Eilers lived for seven or eight years, when young, with his parents in Illinois, and came to the vicinity of Monticello at the age of twelve. His wife, whose maiden name was Maria Harms, the daughter of the late Anton Harms, came with her parents to Jones county, when five years of age. The wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Eilers was the first one solemnized in St. John's Lutheran church near Monticello. They have always lived in the vicinity of Monticello, and in the city during the past eight or nine years. Their children are Barney, Gerry, Edward, Alva and Ben Eilers, sons all living in this vicinity, and Mrs. William Wenger, of Langworthy. They have twenty-one grandchildren and two great grandchildren who are rejoicing with them today in the happiness of this their greatest anniversary.

Obituary of Renk Eiler.
Funeral services for Renk Eiler, who died last Thursday morning, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of his daughter Mrs. William Wenger. Rev. Leonard Duckett, the pastor of the Presbyterian church officiated and burial was made in Oakwood cemetery.
Renk Eiler was born in Hanover Germany, October 6, 1844, and was nearly 82 years old. He had been ill for some time, and his death was caused by the infirmities of old age. During his illness, he received tender care from his daughter, Mrs. Wenger.
When he was a child, he came with his parents to the United States. The family settled in Illinois, later removing to Iowa. Mr. Eiler was married March 2, 1866, to Maria Harms. For 41 years they made their home on a farm three miles west of Monticello, and in 1907 they removed to Monticello, purchasing a home on Main street.
They live here until 1920, when Mrs. Eiler died. Since that time Mr. Eiler made his home with his sons and his daughter. Mr. Eiler is survived by five sons, Barney, Gerry, Alvin, Ben, and one daughter, Mrs. William Wenger. All the children live in or near Monticello. Three daughters preceded their father in death. He also leaves 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
