Toenjes Cornelius Eiben (first son of Gerd Wilhelm Eiben and Christine van Breeston) married Anna Lubben on February 26th, 1890 in Wilden Germany, they had six children.
An interesting thing happened when I wrote to Iowa for Cornelius and Anna's marriage certificate. It came back as Toenjes Cornelius. I mentioned this to my grandmother and she was definate that her dad, Cornelius, had only one name--Cornelius. After talking to another "found" relative a few years ago I learned that there was a rumor in the family that the Eibens left Germany under suspicious circumstances. And--- possibly their surname was Toenjes and they changed it when they came over. But because they wanted to keep the name in some way they gave it to their oldest son Cornelius as a first name. This is all conjecture, but an interesting story and there are Toenjes' in Iowa. (Kay Norden)
