• A two-vehicle accident was reported to police on Friday Aug. 20, The accident involved a 1974 Ford, driven by Emma F. Heiken of Monticello, that hit a parked 1979 Ford, owned by Augusta L. Siebels. After the accident, police reported that Heiken left the scene of the accident. She has been charged with striking an unattended vehicle, Each vehicle's damage estimate was listed at $1,000, according to a police report. (August 25, 1993)

Funeral services for Emma Heiken, 94, were held Saturday, Feb. 14,1998 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Hannemann officiated at the services. Emma Heiken of Monticello died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998 at her home,, following an extended illness. Emma F. Heiken was born May 11, 1903 in Castle Grove Township, Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of I. Albert and Elise Eiben Heiken. She received her early education in Castle Grove Township School #4 and later continued her education at Wartburg College in Waverly. She then worked as a bookkeeper at the Farmers Mutual Creamery. She later was a case worker in the Jones County Welfare Office. In 1955, she went to work at Energy Manufacturing where she became the personal assistant to the plant manager, Bob Larimer. She retired in 1976. Miss Heiken was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, the W.E.L.C.A., and the Social Fellowship. She was baptized on June 14,1903, at SS. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church where she confirmed her faith on April 1, 1917. She was also a member of BPW. Survivors include Harvey Heiken of Fresno, Calif.; four nieces, Dorothy Baumann of Monticello, Dianne Welsh of Seattle, Wash., Cheryl Hall of Knoxville, Jane Lloyd of Clinton, N.Y.; eight nephews, Wilbur Hinrichs of Kansas City, Mo., Raymond Hinrichs of Sacramento, Calif., Paul Hinrichs, Ventura, Calif., Albert Heiken of Santa Rosa, Calif., Robert Rhatigan of Minneapolis, Minn., John Rhatigan of Cedar Rapids, Grant Heiken of Los Alamos, Calif., Brian Suchsland, Belmont, Calif. Also her special friends, Bernita Gray, who visited regularly and Roberta Helgens, whose loving care allowed her to stay in her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Hattie Hinrichs, Caroline Heiken, Clara Rhatigan, Irene Suchsland and two brothers, Ernest and Louis Heiken. Casket bearers were Robert Husman, Colin Husmann, John Rhatigan, Albert Heiken, Wilbur Hinrichs, James Baumann. Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
