A resident of the Monticello area since 1883, John Deetrich Poppe died early Monday morning, July 16, at John McDonald hospital. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. at the Wayne Zion Evangelical Lutheran church with Rev. F. H. Kehren officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood cemetery at Monticello. He was born October 24, 1883, in Wayne township near Langworthy, the son of Frederick John Poppe and Catherine (Dirks) Poppe. He was united in marriage with Adeline Tobiason at the Wayne Lutheran church on February 9, 1910. They farmed near Langworthy where they were now living. A member of the Wayne Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, he is survived by his wife, a sister, Mrs. Anna Fehners of Monticello and four brothers, Fred H. Poppe, Henry H. Poppe, William Poppe and Gerd Poppe. One sister and brothers preceded him in death. Casket bearers are T. R. Tobiason, Michael Tobiason, Herman Folkers, William Pleuger, John Doden and Arend Poppe.

Funeral Services Held On Thursday at Wayne
LANGWORTHY-Services were held at 10 .a.m. Thursday July 19 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran church in Wayne township for John D. Poppe, 72. Mr. Poppe , died Monday morning, July 16, a t the John McDonald hospital at Monticello after a brain hemorrhage the day before. Casketbearers were Tobias Tobiason, Michael Tobiason, Herman Folkerts, William Pleuger, John Doden and Arend Poppe. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery at Monticello.
John Dietrick Poppe was born Oct. 24, 1883, in the Langworthy vicinity in Wayne township. He was the son of Fred and Almuth Dirks Poppe. He attended the rural schools in Wayne township and spent his entire life farming in the Langworthy vicinity.
Marriage Told
He was married Feb. 9, 1910, to Adeline Gertrude Tobiasen. No children were born to this union. He was president of the Langworthy Farmers Mutual Coop creamery for a number of years and a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, four brothers, Henry H., William, Gerd and Fred H., and a sister, Mrs. Anna Fehners, all of Monticello.

A number from this vicinity attended funeral services Thursday morning at the Wayne Lutheran church for John D. Poppe, who had spent his entire life in this area and had been the president of the Langworthy Farmers Mutual Co-op Creamery for many years.
