Death claimed one of Wayne Zion's most faithful members last Friday. March 4, at 10:30 p. m. after a brief illness with heart trouble. It is Johann Friedrich Poppe of Langworthy, born August 26, 1855 in Leerhafe, Ostfr. Germany as son of the late Johann Dietrich Poppe and wife. Anke Margaret nee Wilken. When 4 years of age he came with his parents to Petersburg. Ill., and a few years later to Jones County Iowa, where he has ever since resided. He was confirmed by Rev. Oetjen. April 11, 1875 and married to Miss Alumth Katherine Dirks by Rev. Mardorf, March 8,
1883. Eight children were born to this union, and all but two survive their father. He retired from active farm work eleven years ago and remained with youngest son and family on old home farm near Langworthy. He became critically ill soon after the death of his sister. Mrs. Mary Schoon on February 25. He was tenderly cared for by his family and death came unexpectedly last Friday at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 7 days. He is survived by his wife, five sons: John, Henry, Will, Gerd, Fred Poppe. Jr.: one daughter, Mrs. Anna Fehners of Castle Grove: four grandchildren; one brother. Mr. G. H. Poppe of Wayne Twp.
