"Uncle Alfred lived in the Oak Grove community of Kemper County out east of DeKalb. His son Thomas was born and reared there, and, after his father's death, continued to live in the old home which he being the sole heir to Uncle Alfred's property, had inherited. There had been only four children in Uncle Alfred's family. Two had died when quite young. A sister, Kate, reached maturity, but died just a few years after she had married a Mr. Ammons. She left one little girl, Lillian, who was reared by cousin Tom as one of his own children." Aunt Betty Hughes.
