Thomas Alfred Barfield

(Abt 1852 - 21 Jun 1898)

"Cousin Thomas -- "Tom" as we all called him, was a musician of no mean ability. He belonged to a string-band which made a good reputation which extended beyond the limits of Kemper County. The services of this band were often secured for commencement exercises at Daleville, when "Cooper Institute" there was a school of note, and when commencement occasions brought gatherings, and when the programs were well worth while.
Tom's children as well as himself became skilled musicians in the part of the state where they lived." Aunt Betty Hughes.
