Individual Details

Salisbury / Salisberry Garrison

(Abt 1770 - 1796)

Salisbury/Saulsbury/Salesberry (many different spellings are found) is a son of Eleanor Robinson and UNKGarrison.

Salisbury Garrison was from Pendleton District South Carolina and he married Mary Williams. Mary Williams is the mother of both Nancy and Eleanor, the wives of Martin and John Jones and Salisbury's widow after 1796 of Pendleton District (Whittaker).

Salisbury and Zebulon owned adjoining land on the Saluda River in South Carolina. Salesberry was established on property along George's Creek, west of the Saluda River, by the mid-1790s.

On August 16, 1796, a deed to Thomas Blasingame, of Pendleton Co., SC was for land on the Saluda River bounded by the property of Zebulon and Salesberry Garrison and Robert Easley. (From Greenville Deed Book C (from the research of Sam Garrison) This only helps prove the location and time period. (Simmons))

Salesberry Garrison died sometime between August 16, 1796 and September 16, 1799. On the latter date, his wife, Mary Williams Garrison, was appointed Administrator for his property. Elinor moved to George's Creek to "sit" on the property of her deceased son, Salesberry, before 1800, as she is found in the 1800 census there. Mary was unable to fulfill her administrator duties on her husband's property and eventually Zebulon was called from Georgia (on February 24, 1807) to settle the estate matters. The property remained in family hands through Zebulon who settled the estate, administratively, for Mary Garrison and through Elinor Garrison, the widow, who moved to the site.

Zebulon sold his part of the George's Creek property to Pleasant Easley of Greenville Co., SC. The George's Creek property where Salesberry lived was eventually sold to an Easley by Salesbury Garrison Jr. of Grayson Co., KY. The Easleys soon owned much of the George's Creek area; and the community of Easley, SC, was named for this family.

Garrisons are found on the first tax lists of Edmonson Co. They probably lived in the area that was Hart Co up til about 1827. I was told some of the family was on the Grayson Co Census 1810 - some of that area became Hart Co as well and then Edmonson. We find a Jones Garrison in Warren Co in the 1815 time frame signing as a witness for the family.. He is somehow connected to the Webb and Jones family. (Whittaker)
