Misses Celia and Hazle Guizlo spent the week-end with their cousin Albert Duval and family at Lewis.

The family was not happy that Hazel wanted to marry Charles V. Bruce, the son of a Methodist minister. If you check the dates you will see that Hazel was four months pregnant when they got married. Marriage 26 November 1917 and date of Dad's birth 28 April 1918. I do know that all holidays were difficult. Charles and Hazel were never together at any family function. It was pretty bitter. Charles V. and Hazel were in Rockyford, Colorado when the baby boy was born and died (Nov 1920). Then in the newspaper article that told of the loss of Ilamae it states that Mr. Bruce was one of the men putting in the city sewer system there in Plattsburg, Mo. She died in January of 1923. His work kept them moving around.

Hazel and her cousin Adele spent some time together when they were young. When Adele's mother died in 1905, Adele stayed with Hazel's family. Adele for unknown reasons didn't like Hazel's first husband. I don't know what the two women did together and how they got along, but in later years they said things about each other. Adele said that Hazel had tried to kill herself once. Hazel said back that Adele had an abortion, and that's why she could never have children. Who knows if either is true. But if Hazel had, remember she had lost two babies and then went through a divorce, if that doesn't depress someone, I don't know what does. Who knows what Adele was up too running around in SF when she was young.
