Elijah and Lydia Prouty bought there property in Brattleborough, Vermont in December 1808. Elijah Prouty, Richard Prouty, and Francis Prouty, were subscribers on November 12th, 1770 of the First Church in Battleboro (Cabot, 73)



* Cumberland County was a short-lived county in Vermont, comprising territory obtained from New York in 1777: Cumberland County and Gloucester County. In 1781 this county was broken up into three counties in Vermont and one that eventually became part of New Hampshire. Windham County, one of the original two counties of Vermont, began as Cumberland Co. in 1779, was renamed in 1781. Brattleboro, in Windham Co., is the oldest town in the state.
