PROUTY - C. H. Pope, The Prouty (Proute) Genealogy (1910), p. 57, states that #59 Elijah’s second dau., Lydia C. PROUTY, m. Sheldon THORNTON; however, the note “Prouty Bible Records” (Register 59[1905]:417) shows two Lydia PROUTYs from different generations. Brattleboro, Vt., records list Lydia PROUTY & Sheldon THORNTON as m. 9 Oct. 1799; Lydia’s g.s. states “Lydia, wife of Shelden Thornton, born Apr. 6, 1777; died Apr. 14, 1851.” Lydia C. PROUTY of the Bible record was b. 14 July 1804, dau. of Elija[h] & Hannah Prouty; thus Sheldon THORNTON’s w. Lydia was prob. aunt of Lydia C.
