A petition to establish a new county (Mason) by settlers of Limestone, Bourbon Co., Kentucky was rejected by Virginia in 1786. Among the signers of this petition are Berry's, Cusenberry's, Elisha Dewitt; John, Moses, & Zachariah Materson, etc.

A second petition by Limestone inhabitants to divide Bourbon Co. was again rejected in 1787. Elisha Dewitt again one of the signers.
