Winborn Lawton Sr.

Winborn Lawton, born on Edisto in 1745, died on James Island on September 22, 1809. He married a daughter of Jonathan Frampton, the widow Mary Mathews (born on August 22, 1749; died February 10, 1839), who had one son, William Mathews, by her first marriage. Winborn Lawton and his wife Mary Mathews had three children: Winborn Lawton, Jr., born 1782, died March 24, 1861; Beulah Lawton, who married John Hughes January 29, 1801;21 and William Lawton. 22

Moved from Edisto Island to James Island across bay from Charleston and founded Charleston branch of family.

No record of service during Revolutionary War; Tory? BUT Florence Lawton says "Winborn Lawton of James Island, SC, was a Revolutionary soldier; A member of the S.C. Legislature; & 1/2 brother of Col. Joseph Lawton of Black Swamp, SC."
