Notes imported from GEDCOM:

*Much of the data on the Whitecotton line (pre-James Whitecotton), aswell as the Axton and Foote lines, was sent courtesy Rosalie Nadler ofBenton, IL who received the info through her research. Interpretationsof that data are merely that.

A deed in the Stafford County, Virginia Record Book (p. 343), dated May11, 1706 reads:
"To whom this concerns, Milly White-Cotton of Stafford County, sonand heir of Anne Axton White-Cotton, of the same county, consideration2500 pounds of tobacco good and merchantable, sells to John Gowry 200acres of land more or less lying in Stafford southside of Potomac Creekformerly in possession of my deceased grandfather, John Axton." This isapparently the final acknowledgement of the sale by Mealey, for I haverecord of a similar though longer declaration by Mealey dated 8 Jan 1706.
This entry establishes both Mealy's parentage, and that of his mother. Ibelieve it also helps to set Mealy's date of birth. To appear before thecourt, as we see with his mother two decades earlier, one had to be ofthe age of majority. We can firmly place Mealy's birth sometime between1681-1686 based on his mother's age and marriages (see notes for AnnAxton). That taken, I believe that Mealy's appearance in court to sellthis long-disputed property coincides with his reaching majority and nowbeing able to handle his own affairs. That would place his birth in oraround 1684.
