Haakon claims to have tobogganed with the king of Norway on the hills of Oslo as a boy. He had two sisters, and one brother, but their names are not known. Haakon came to the U.S. arriving 12-25-1909. His father, Karl, died in 1931 and is buried in Ostre Gravlund, Oslo. Karen and Haakon had a daughter, Hardy, who remained in Oslo. She had a daughter, Grethe Napstad, who had twin daughters, Helene and Cathrine Borgen Napstad. Karen arrived in the U.S. in August, 1911. They were married 9/11/11 Haakon worked as a farm hand, as they made their home in Campbell Valley, near Money Creek. They raised a large family here, but later moved to Winona and made their home on Olmstead Street. Haakon had a great sense of humor, and was a real tease. Karen was a real gem to raise him 12 fine children here in the states. Haakon died in his home of leukemia on August 27, 1951 and is buried in the Stone Church Cemetery, Houston, MN. Added by Anita (10-92) Haakon was very artistic, good at penmanship and enjoyed making items in his basement workshop. Hardy's granddaughter - In view of the fact that the Napstand name would not be carried on, and Bengt had a son in his second marriage, the twins legally took the Napstad name in honor of their grandmother Hardy Anita Currier

Betsy wrote: (26 Dec 2019) that Lyle Ask said - When Grandpa Haakon came he worked for a relative named Carlson or Karlson. He was 19.
There were Asks in Iowa but not close related.
His grandma was a Hanson (Karen). She may have been brought up by relatives or in an orphanage.
Grand pa Haakon lived in area of Houston and Rushford working for Carlsons/Karlsons.
Lyle did not know his dad had any brothers or sisters except for one. They never talked about that.
Louise and Karl T Carlson was the family. Louise was his dad's sister - who lived outside Winona and they sponsored him to come over to America and he worked for them and they found a job for him at Conedale Farm.

From Karl Otto there was a son John who's wife was Petra - they were the cousin's in Iowa. Two are buried in Norway Iowa.

Grandma Karen's brother came to Boston but she never saw him. He may have had one arm - Ben Hanson from Oslo area.

I guess the Asks and Hansons had stores across the street from each other - small town merchants - different items so no competition.

Jon's dad - Lyle - said his parents spoke Norwegian when they spoke bout relatives so kids could not understand.

When Hardy came to visit she called Karen- moder - mother.
