Individual Details
Louise Amalie Ask
(10 Nov 1885 - 26 Nov 1973)
or Amelia
============
She came to America 30 Dec 1902 on ship Belgenland to Philadelphia
at age 17. She was sponsored by her Uncle. Uncle B Rettersen of Ridgeway or in Houston or Winona county. Or B. Pettersen
==
She and her husband sponsored her brother Haakon age 19 when he came to America and found him a job.
==
Betsy wrote (26 Dec 2019) that Lyle Ask said - When Grandpa Haakon came he worked for a relative named Carlson or Karlson. He was 19.
There were Asks in Iowa but not close related.
His grandma was a Hanson (Karen). She may have been brought up by relatives or in an orphanage.
Grand pa Haakon lived in area of Houston and Rushford working for Carlsons/Karlsons.
Lyle did not know his dad had any brothers or sisters except for one. They never talked about that.
Louise and Karl T Carlson was the family. Louise was his dad's sister - who lived outside Winona and they sponsored him to come over to America and he worked for them and they found a job for him at Conedale Farm.
From Karl Otto there was a son John who's wife was Petra - they were the cousin's in Iowa. Two are buried in Norway Iowa.
Grandma Karen's brother came to Boston but she never saw him. He may have had one arm - Ben Hanson from Oslo area.
I guess the Asks and Hansons had stores across the street from each other - small town merchants - different items so no competition.
Jon's dad - Lyle - said his parents spoke Norwegians when they spoke bout relatives so kids could not understand.
When Hardy came to visit she called Karen- moder - mother.
