Biography

Mary Haskell was the daughter of William Haskell and Mary Tybbott.[1][2][3] It has been suggested that Mary and Sarah Haskell were twins, as some unsourced internet genealogies show them as having the same date of birth (28 Jan 1660). However, it is likely that Mary was the firstborn daughter of William and Mary and that she was born in Planter's Neck/Gloucester, Massachusetts shortly after June 1651 (she was not named in the will of her grandfather, Walter Tybbot).[4] SEE RESEARCH NOTES.
Mary married Edward Dodge[1] in Beverly, Massachusetts in April 1673,[5] possibly on the 30th.[6][7] Mary and Edward Dodge had the following children:[8][9]
Mary, b.21 Apr 1675, d.20 Nov 1763, m.Peter Woodbury;
Jonathan, b.bef. 15 Dec 1678;
Jonathan, b.3 Jul 1679, d.Oct 1756, m.Esther Friend;
Edith, b.3 Jan 1681, d.3 Nov 1743, m.Israel Wood;
Ruth, b.15 Aug 1685, d.9 Jan 1727, m.Israel Balch;
Edward, b.bef. 6 Nov 1687, d.1751, m.Abigail Hayward;
Eleanor, b.abt. 1691, m.Thomas Bray III;
Hannah, b.bef. 17 Apr 1692, d.1782, m.Samuel Curtis;
Mark, b.bef. 21 Oct 1694, d.26 Jan 1789, m1.Sarah Dodge, m2.Elizabeth Woodbury.
Mary, widow of Edward Dodge, died in 1737 in Beverly, Massachusetts.[5][10][11] A possible date of death of 13 Feb 1737 has been noted, but no source for this info has been found.[1]
Research Notes

From Haskell Journal, Journal of the Haskell Family Association, Issue 34, Spring 1993, page 574 (Note 65):[9]

"... Mary, [b.] ca. 1651 (second half of year): William O. Haskell, Genealogical Tree, (1880): Walter Tybbot made his will on June 5, 1651. It is most lucid and precise. He mentions all his grandchildren by name including the four sons of his daughter Mary, but does not mention Mary, who would have been his first granddaughter. Therefore she must have been born sometime after June 5 in 1651. This was a time when Gloucester was without a trained town clerk.The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, 1880, Vol. 4, Pg. 363, contains the following entry under Haskell; "Mary, b. June 28, 1660 This is a mistake! The correct name in that location is "Sarah", a name they omit entirely. If "Sarah" is inserted in place of "Mary" then their listing from "Mark" through "Eleanor" is in the correct order with the correct dates. I cannot find the cause of this error but I suspect that it is the source of all the subsequent errors and puzzlements about the order of birth of William' Haskell's children after John2.If Mary had been born June 28th 1660 and married April 30th 1673 (a correct date verified by more than one source), she would have been married at age 12 years, 10 months, something never allowed by Puritan parents who were particularly alert to the problem of men who are attracted to very young girls. (For instance see: Salem Quarterly Court Records, September 29, 1640, case of John Cooke and also Salem Quarterly Court Records, December 10, 1642, case of George Davis of Lynn). Since she was born in 1651, Mary was married at the age of 22, which is about the average age at which young woman married in New England at this time.It is noteworthy that William 0. Haskell's 1880 Genealogical Tree compiled from records kept until 1808 by Nathanial4 Haskell born 1718 [William3, Mark2, William1] and continued by William 0. Haskell (born 1808) until 1880 is at times more accurate than other sources"Sources
