Biography

This is the profile for Mary, the wife of William Haskell.
Date of Birth; Parentage; Place of Birth

According to Family Data Collection, Mary was born on 6 Nov 1628.[1] However, no reliable evidence has been found that supports that date and it seems highly unlikely. Based on Mary's date of marriage (November 1643), a date of birth of sometime in 1618-1625 seems probable, with 1622 being a reasonable midpoint estimate.
Mary was the daughter of Walter Tibbot (also Tybbot, Tippet), as established by a bequest by Walter in his 1651 will to "Dafter mari hasskol The wif of william hasskole".[2]
As discussed in Walter Tibbot's profile, although a number of secondary sources (and Torrey's New England Marriages Prior to 1700 and many family trees in reliance thereon) show that Walter Tibbot was married to a woman named Mary who was his only wife and the mother of his children, more recent research has shown that, instead, Walter was married to two women, neither named Mary: Agnes (last name unknown), who was buried in Bristol, England in March 1630, and Jone Hill, who Walter married in Bristol in May 1630. Based on Mary's estimated date of birth of about 1622, she was no doubt the daughter of Walter's first wife, Agnes. As discussed in Agnes' profile, her maiden name and parentage are unknown.
As discussed in Walter Tibbot's profile, although several secondary sources suggest that Walter came from Chepstow or elsewhere in Wales, there is no evidence that establish that he ever lived in Wales and, since the only known English records for Walter place him in Bristol, England, it is most likely that Mary was born in or near Bristol.
Immigration; Residency in Green's Harbor and Gloucester

As discussed in Walter Tibbot's profile, Walter immigrated to New England with the Blinman Company in 1640, where he initially settled in Green's Harbor (later called Marshfield) in the Plymouth Colony, before removing to Gloucester in 1642. Walter's wife Jone and daughter Mary no doubt accompanied him, although Mary's sister Agnes remained in Bristol with her husband Henry Dicke/Dike until sometime after Henry's death later in the 1640s.
Marriage and Children

Mary married William Haskell on 6 Nov 1643[3][4] in Gloucester, Massachusetts,[5][6][7] or on 16 Nov 1643[8][9] in Salem, Massachusetts.[10] It is possible that they were married in a civil ceremony performed by a magistrate in Salem, Massachusetts, but the marriage was recorded in the Vital Records of Gloucester.[11]
William and Mary had the following children:[12][8][13]
William, b.26 Aug 1644 in Gloucester, d.5 Jun 1708, m.Mary Browne 1667;
Joseph, b.2 Jun 1646 in Gloucester, d.12 Nov 1727, m.Mary Graves 1674;
Benjamin, b. abt. 1648, d.25 May 1741, m.Mary Riggs 1677;
John, b. abt. 1649, d.2 Feb 1718, m.Mary Baker 1685;
Mary, unknown DOB, d.13 Feb 1737, m.Edward Dodge 1673. She was likely their first-born daughter, born about 1651,[10] but she could be a twin, as some show her DOB 28 Jun 1660 (the same as her sister, Sarah), or perhaps she was baptized in 1660. No records have been found to prove or disprove.
Ruth, b. abt. 1654, d.26 Nov 1714, m.Nehemiah Grover 1673/4;
Mark, b.8 Apr 1658, d.8 Sep 1691, m.Elizabeth Giddings 1685;
Sarah, b.28 Jun 1660 in Gloucester, d.4 Mar 1692, m.Edward Harraden 1684;
Elinor, b.28 May 1663 in Gloucester, d. after 1733, m.Jacob Griggs 1685;Death

Mary died on 16 Aug 1693 in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts,[12][6][13][14] just four days before her husband died.

comment. Chase AshleyPer research discussed in the profile for Agnes (Unknown) Tippet, Agnes was very probably the mother of Walter Tybbott's children and Mary (his wife at the time of his death) actually his 3d wife.posted Jan 08, 2020 by Chase Ashley
