John Francis Hubbert was born in the city of Yougal, Ireland, October 23, 1860 and had reached the age of 64 years, 9 months and 10 days at the time of his death. He died Wednesday, Aug 19, 1925 after an illness with paralysis following leakage of the heart. He came to this country when he was 8 years old with his parents and setled in Boston.
In 1880 he came out here to Town of Woods and took a homestead, where he encountered all the hardships of the early pioneers, and built a beautiful farm house which he still owns in that township. He was a very active and trustworthy man and held various offices of the township for 22 years. He was town clerk and county commissioner of that district and held various other offices of Wood Township.
He was married April 29,1913 to Miss Anna Buckley at Rock Rapids, Iowa, who with two children, Marie and Robert, are left to mourn the loss of a good husband and father.
They moved from the farm to our village in October, 1914, purchasing a beautiful home in the west part of the village and where they continually made their home ever since.
Mr Hubbert took charge of the telephone exchange in February of 1918 and later bought out the exchange from the stockholders, and labored earnestly for several years to give Murdock a telephone system.
He leaves to mourn his loss besides his family, three sisters, Mrs. Geo. McPhee of Shevlin, MN, Mrs Frank Weller of Atkinson, Neb, and Mrs. Ben Badger of Sheyenne, Wyo. and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.
His funeral was held last Friday morning at 9 o'clock from the Catholic church with a high solem requim mass, read by Rev Wj Murphy, assisted by Rev AJ Koller of Clara City and Rev PJ Lucey of DeGraff. Internment took place in the cemetery adjoining the family plot, where their oldest son, John Francis is buried who passed away in infancy.
The pallbearers were Thos. Shekelton, M. Walsh, FJ O'Neil, John Powers, Patrick Reynolds, and JJ Lannon---Murdock Leader.

John stayed at home with his mother until she died in 1913. John had something happen to his legs so he could not walk very well so he could no longer farm. John was over 40 years old when he married a school teacher.

Death
Obituary for Mrs Anna Hubbert Buried Thursday per Murdock Leader dated Thursday, July 25, 1935.Mrs. Anna Buckley Hubbert was born July 13, 1880 at Ambia. Indiana and had reached the age of 55 years and 3 days at the time of her death. She died Tuesday, July 16, 1935 after a short illness. Death was caused by heart disease and other complications.
In 1901 she moved with her family to Clara City, Minnesota and in 1905 to Rock Rapids, Iowa where she resided until the time of her marriage in 1913.
She was married April 29, 1913 to John Francis Hubbert who preceded her in death August 19, 1925. One son, John Francis, Jr. died in infancy May 10, 1914.
In 1915 Mr and Mrs Hubbert moved to their farm in the Town of Woods to Murdock. Mr Hubbert took charge of the telephone exchange in 1918 after his death in 1925, Mrs Hubbert continued the work. Ahe sold the telephone property in 1931 to Mr. E.B. Peterson of Kerkhoven but continued as manager and operator until July 5, 1935 when she was confined to her bed.
Although her time for outside activity was limited, Mrs. HUbbert took an active interest in and participated in the church activities and many social activities.
Besides her children, Marie and Robert, she leaves to mourn her three sisters, Miss Bertha Buckley, Mrs. Leo Dye, and Mrs. Horance Dauchey and four brothers Frank, Robert, Tom and Ben Buckley.
Her funeral was held last Thursday at 9 o'clock from the Sacred Heart Church, Fr Morin conducted the funeral services. Interment took place in the adjoining cemetery in the family plot beside her husband and son.
The pall bearers were: MJ Walsh, H Peterson, JJ Lannon, T T Comerford, C/H Kennedy and J L Yost.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Frank Buckley, and Mr and Mrs Tom Buckley of Rock Rapids, IA., Mrs Chas Eisenreich, Mrs Clair Lantz, Mrs Leo Condon and Mr Charles Condon of St Cloud, Minnesota.

Anna had a telephone station in her home at Murdock, MN in the late 1930's. Charlie and Francis Condon visited them and saw the station. John used to haul his grain to Murdock, MN.
