Peter Poindexter came to Jessamine Co KY [then Fayette] in 1791. About 1825 he moved his family to Logan Co KY - sons John & Samuel were already living there.
Logan Co DB T: p.133 4 Apr 1832 James Poor & Jane his wife to Drury W. Poor. Tract on Big Whipporwill. 23 acres. James Poors mill pond, corner to Peter Poindexter, bank of creek below James Poors Spring. Bought by James Poor of Peter Poindexter.
I've no idea why Peter Poindexter might have gone to Sangamon Co IL for a few years but the following appears to be the same land owned by Peter back in Kentucky.

Will dated 15 Oct 1843, Todd Co KY. Proved 11 Dec 1843. Estate to be divided among sons: William, John, Samuel, Peter, Thomas, George, Jesse; and daughters Nancy who married John Bryant, Susan who married Vincent Higbee, and Mary who married Joseph Small. [Apparently no wife living.] John, Samuel & George of KY and Peter of MO to be executors. Wit: John Jarrard, Richard Hollins.
