Margaret Dodson

(Abt 1800 - Abt 1868)

1850 Census for Jackson County: Margaret "Pepen", born TN, age 49; Pinkney age 21, Joseph Dotsan (could this have been Dodson? a son or brother of Margaret's?] age 24.
Said to be in the home of her son Pinkney in 1860 in Jackson Co TN and in the 1870 Census in Putnam Co. living in the home of her son-in-law Joseph Lock - she was then listed as 87 years old [either her age greatly exaggerated or her birth year is wrong and in fact her age is inconsistent in the censues]

15 Nov 1859, the sheriff of Jackson Co issued deeds for two tracts to Margaret Pippin, formerly Margaret Dodson. One was 100 acres, the other 50, both on Cane Creek and had belonged to William Dodson. They had been sold by sheriff's sale 29 Jul 1825 to satisfy a judgment brought by Thomas Simpson for $378.38. The lands were escheated by Joseph J. Walter to Margaret Pippin on 15 Nov 1859. She sold both tracts to Arena Thompson on 20 Nov the same year, with the exception of four acres known as Morgan's Spring.

10 Sep 1867, Margaret made a deed of gift to Nancy Lock [her daughter] of 50 acres. On 8 Oct 1867, she made another deed of gift for 50 acres to her grandaughter, Lorena Pippin, daughter of son Pinkney. Both tracts in Putnam Co.
