Funeral services were held here today for Marvin Early Holderness, long prominent as a bank executive in St. Louis, who died Monday at a convalescent home in Columbia, Tenn.
Mr. Holderness, 97 years old, was a vice presicent of the First National Bank in St. Louis from 1919 to 1946, when he retired. He had also been an officer of the Third National Bank in St. Louis.
....He was born in Fordyce, AR in 1877, the son of Algernon Sydney and Catherine Dixon Holderness. He prepared for college at the Little Rock Conference Training School and later became headmaster of that school. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1902 and became treasurer of the university from 1905 to 1907.
Mr. Holderness was one of the first officers of the Boy Scouts of America and a member of the committee to receive Gen. Robert S. Baden-Powell when he arrived to establish the Boy Scouts in the U.S.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William P. Ridley Jr., Columbia, TN; a son, Marvin E. Holderness Jr., New York City; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Buried Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville, Davidson Co, TN with Eunice.
