SAMUEL Hoskins

(8 Aug 1654 - Bet 2 Apr 1727 and 13 Oct 1731)

At least one reference has Samuel's mother as an unknown second wife of William Hoskins. This seems quite possible since he was apparently some twenty years younger than his sister Sarah.

Note: The early Peirce book, 1874, has a serious error in that he confused and conflabulated two Samuels, father and son.

The author of the TAG article states that in reading probate and land records, it was evident that Samuel, SR, could not sign his name, Samuel, JR, could do so and used the designation 2nd or Jr as long as his father seemed to be living - by 1731, he signed deeds as Samuel Sr.
2 Apr 1727 - an agreement of the Austin heirs to which Samuel & Mary Austin's son William was a party, was witnessed by Samuel Haskins Sr. (his mark) and Samuel Haskins, Jr. DB 18, p.76.
31 Oct 1731, young Samuel, now Samuel Hoskins "Sr" sold to his son Samuel, 40 acres by the land of heirs of William Briggs - this deed signed by full signature. When this land was bought, 2 Mar 1723/4, it was purchased by Samuel Haskins, 2nd. DB 15, p.284
