Elizabeth [HADEN]

( - )

Named Elizabeth Brown in papers of Gertrude Haden. I don't have a source for this name.

There is a Rowan Co marriage, 13 Jan 1804. Charles Burroughs married Elizabeth Haden. Max. Chambers, bondsman, A.L. Osborn, DC wit. There was no young, unmarried, Elizabeth Haden known in Rowan Co at this time. No Charles or Elizabeth Burroughs/Burris is found in Rowan Co in 1810 - there was a Charles Burris is 1800, age 26-45 [Elizabeth could have been about age 45 in 1800] It is likely this is the remarriage of the widow.

I believe the brothers are selling a tract of land that belonged to their father, Douglas. There was a six-year lapse between the making of this deed and it's recording.

19 Nov 1823 Joseph T. Burroughs to Zachariah McAtee for $400. 198a W side of Yadkin and South fork of Yadkin adj Billy D. Haden & William Moor. It was a conveyance from Billy D. Haden & Jesse Haden to Charles Burroughs dec'd [21:842] and from him to his heir J. T. Burroughs. Wit: Robert Lyster, Nancy McAtte. Prvd by Lyster Aug Ct 1824

It looks to me like Billy D & Jesse sold their share of this part of their father's land to Charles Burroughs, probably their step-father. It's possible that the late registration of the deed occurred about the time of Charles Burroughs' death, to clear title for his heirs. I did not, of course, look for Burroughs deeds when I had access to the Rowan Co abstracts. But I'll bet there's another when they sell another piece of approximately 100 acres that would have been Elizabeth's dower interest in this tract.
