In the name of God,Amen, I, John Stamps, of Limestone County and State of Alabama, being the 9th of May 1822, being weak of body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for it, and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is apportioned for all men to die, do hereby publish, make known and constitute this my last will and testament in manner and form following, namely:
First, I bequeath my Soul unto God that gave it, nothing doubting I shall receive it again at the Resurrection and as to my body I give it into the hands of my executors to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the descretion of my executors.
As to my estate it is my will that all my just debts be paid out of the
whole of my personal estate. As to my crops I do wish it to be sold and credited on a credit of twelve months with all the rest of my personal
property, exclusive of my cotton. If there remains any after paying my settlement debts, I do give unto my beloved sons Joshua and John.
And as to my household furniture, I wish it to be sold on said credit of twelve months, exclusive of the three bedsteads and furniture which I wish to equally divide among my three youngest daughters Nancy, Levica Bledsoe and Elizabeth.
And I appoint my son-in-law John Smith, guardian for my three youngest children Levica Bledsoe, Elizabeth and John Stamps.
As to my property I wish the balance, after paying my just debts, to be equally divided between all my children and I do appoint my son-in-law John Smith and William Fleet my executors and I do acknowledge this to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this day and date above written.
