Parthena Dodson

Parthena may have been a sister to Millicent Dodson that married John's brother Timothy. Millicent is thought to be a daughter of Charles Dodson.

Tithables in 1767, Pittsylvania Co, name John Stamps, under 16, and his brother Timothy. In 1777 in Henry Co, John and Timothy renounced allegiance to the King of England.

Pittsylvania Co service records: 25 Sep 1778, John Walters appointed 1st Lt, John Hall 2nd Lt, and John Stamps, Ensign - Capt Carter's Co.

12 Aug 1797 John Stamps purchased 200 acres on Cloud's Creek, on the Broad River in Oglethorpe Co GA. As a Revolutionary soldier in had two land draws in the 1805 GA lottery - on 3 Dec 1805 he received a deed for 200 acres in Baldwin Co.

2 May 1806, John signed the receipt for his share of the personal property of his father's estate. Under the terms of his father's will, he received 262 acres on Shoal Creek in Clarke Co. GA. 23 Nov 1807, he and Purthena, wife, of Clarke Co, sold the 22 acres to Thomas Greer. On 23 Nov 1807, he sold another 41 acres on Shoal Creek to Charles Dougherty.

13 Mar 1808, John sold the land in Baldwin Co - he was at that time living in Morgan Co GA.
17 Dec 1808, Randel Burney sold John Stamps of Morgan Co, 99 acres on Rocky Creek. He purchased another tract from James Morris of Jackson Co on 29 Jan 1809, also on Rocky Creek, Lot 52.

14 Jun 1810, John bought two parcels, 125 acres and another 100 acres, on the waters of Elk River in Franklin Co, TN. 16 Feb 1813, he bought an additional 200 acres, north side of the Elk River.

The 1812 tax list for Franklin Co names John Stamps and his sons, William, George, & James.

1820, Franklin Co TN Census, John and spouse were both over 45; they had 2 slaves. No children
The 1830 Census shows John Stamps and spouse to be 80-90 years old. Sons James, Hosea & Joseph were also living in Franklin Co in 1830.

John Stamps had nine sons, but no daughters. The sons were John, William, James, Nathan, Timothy, George, Hosea, Joseph, and Martin.
