Levi Ward

(26 Nov 1745 - 28 Feb 1839)

2 Mar 1756 Daniel Hurd made bond as guardian of Levy Ward, minor Son of Peter Ward Junr, late of Killingworth, dec'd.

6 May 1760. Levi Ward, son of Peter Ward, late of Killinworth, in his 14th year made choice of his uncle John Spencer to be his guardian before me: Elnathan Stevens, Justice of the Peace
1 Jul 1760. John Spencer of Killingworth, New London made bond in the District of Guilford as guardian of Levi Ward, minor son of Peter Ward, late of Killingworth, dec'd.

8 Jan 1782 is the date of Levi's marriage to Mary Meigs in the Warde book.
Barbour gives a more realistic date of 8 Jun 1765, in Killingsworth. Perhaps the later date was his second marriage.

In the estate papers of his father:
I Levi Ward, Guardian to Ambrose Ward, Minor, Son of Peter Ward late of Killingworth Dec'd, Do hereby Acknowledge that I have recd of Jairus Handy late guardian to sd Minor, the whole of the sd Minors Estate and Interest that was in his hands and care and Desire he may be Discharged of his Guardian Bond.
I Say Recd by me this 30th day of June 1768. Signed: Levi Ward
Note: in just a few months Ambrose would be aged 21.
