Francis was a Captain in Robert Lanier's company during the Revolution; he then married Lanier's widow.

This parcel on Yadkin, both sides Shallowford Rd, begin poplar on Allen's Br. Adj Joseph Williams, Peter Mock, Orman Kimbrough, Hamilton, Thorton, & Colvard. Includes: Batter's Tract, 380 acres. Cane Brake Tract of 542 a; and one other of 50a including an island called “The Fishing Island” Francis Poindexter highest bidder. Proved Aug Term 1801.

p.62 Admin on estate of Francis Poindexter dec'd granted to Jane Poindexter, widow & relict who entered into bond with Ormand Kimbrough security in the amount of 3000#. Admr qualified according to law and ordered that letters issue. Ordered that an order of sale issue.

26 Jun 1802. William Thornton, Joseph Williams, George Kimbrough & Peter Mock appointed to lay off part of the crop, stock & provisions of the estate of Francis Poindexter, dec'd to his widow Jane Poindexter, for the support of said widow and family for one year. Assigned all the bacon (about 100#) now on hand. All the hogs being 27 including 6 piggs for fresh uses. All the crop of wheat & rye in the fields; all the corn in one crib (10-12 barrels) and 5 barrels more out of another crib and all the corn in the fields. Three grown cows for beef in the ensuing fall & winter. Signed by the four commissioners.

Inventory and Estate Sale of Francis Poindexter, dec'd held 1 Jul 1802. Jane Poindexter made most of the purchases. Other purchasers included George & Ormand Kimbrough, Daniel Scott, Thomas Longino, Henry Poindexter. Jane Poindexter signed as Executrix.
A listing of accounts by Jane notes that there was $500 cash in a trunk and $56 in a desk. Several bonds owing are listed, she believes some cannot be collected.

To the court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions, Surry Co. Petition of Ormond Kimbrough. At the May Term, 1807 of Surry Co, Henry P. Poindexter & Jane Poindexter, children of Francis Poindexter, dec'd, late of Surry Co chose Henry Harrison to be the guardian. At the same time said Harrison, Esq was appointed guardian to Francis Anderson Poindexter & Thomas W. Poindexter, children of said dec'd. Harrison accepted and entered into bond with your petitioner as security. Kimbrough requests to be released.
Feb Term 1808 - Court ordered Henry Harrison, Esqr to appear and provide other security for his guardianship. Summons issued.

Poindexter, Archibald Poindexter, Daniel Scott & wife Ann, George Pettit & wife Patsey, Isaac McCammon & wife Elizabeth, Jesse Riden & wfie Mary, James Lovill & wife Sarah, William Randall & wife Doretha, petition against William Poindexter, Thomas W. Pledge Poindexter, and the heirs of Francis Poindexter, dec'd, to wit: Jenny intermarried with Jacob Clingman, Henry Poindexter, Francis Poindexter & Thomas Poindexter a minor under the age of 21 by Peter Clingman his Guardian and the grandchildren of Francis Poindexter, dec'd, to wit: Alexander Clingman, Francis & Henry, the children and heirs at law of Ann the former wife of Peter Clingman & which last three are minors under the age of 21 by Peter Clingman, their guardian. Thomas Poindexter departed this life in the month of Jan 1807, intestate, leaving your petitioners and the defendants his children & grandchildren and heirs at law. He died possessed of the following tracts of land adjoining lands of John G. Poindexter & Samuel Martin on waters of the Yadkin River containing 100 acres and another tract adjoining lands of William Apperson, William Philips & Robert A. Poindexter on waters of the Yadkin of 100 acres. Petition for five commissioners to lay off and divide said tracts and assess any sums of money to make them nearly as equal as possible. Thos. Capt Francis Poindexter is buried in the Clingman Cemetery, Shallow Ford Crossing, Yadkin Co [now Forsyth] NC along with his wife Jane and her first husband Robert Lanier.
