He was a member of Flatlands Church, 1677 (aged 12 years), deacon in 1693, and treasurer in 1696. On 16 May 1702 he sold a farm in Flatlands to Cornelius Coerte Voorhees. In 1707 he removed to Monmouth Co., New Jersey, where he bought 1000 acres of land. They were both members of Marlborough Church of New Jersey in 1709 where he was an Elder. His will, dated 27 February 1746 and proved 25 April 1746, mentions wife Neeltie; and children: Cornelius ("eldest"), John, Peter, Jacob, Geertie, Neeltie, and Johannes. His son William was not mentioned in the will and assumed to be deceased by that point
