Leonard is said to have had sons Amos, Fielding, and James - James not listed by all researchers.. He may have had a daughter Mary "Polly", who married James Herndon, 25 Jun 1814, Logan Co KY.

Leonard made pension application for his Revolutionary Service in Calloway County Court, on 23rd Oct 1832. Pension S-16574. He was then age 72 years, two months. He entered service in the Fall of 1780 while a resident of Lincoln Co, NC. He first went out for three months under Capt. Shorkey against the Tories. The greater part of the time he served in the county of Burke, NC. He furnished his own horse. He knows of no one living that could prove his service. If he had any written discharge, he has lost it.
In the Spring of 1781, he joined the company of Capt. Godfrey Adams in NC and marched to Camden, in SC where they joined the Army of Gen. Sumpter. He served about ten months and was discharged at Four Hole Bridge about 40 miles from Charleston; he believe that was in February or March of 1782. He was in the Battle of Juniper Springs. The only person he knows that can establish this service is Joshua Murray whose affidavit is part of this declaration.
He served thirteen months. He was born 12 Aug 1760 in Granville Co, NC as recorded in his father's Bible, but he does not know the wherabouts of the Bible at the present time.
He lived in Lincoln Co NC when first called. He moved from NC to Sumner co, TN where he lived about three years, then to Logan Co KY where he lived about 35 years, and then he moved to Calloway Co KY, where he says lived ever since.
He is known to the following persons in his neighborhood: James Martin, H. Milliken, E. Heath, Edmund & William Curd, and Henry McGuared
Signed: Leonard West

Joshua Murrah testified, stating he had served under Capt Godfrey Adams, North Carolina, and was marched to Camden where they joined the Army of Gen. Sumpter. He became acquainted with and for ten months served with Leonard West. They were discharged at Four hole bridge. 3 Sep 1832. Logan co Ky before Spencer Curd. William Whitsett Senr, presiding Justice of the Logan County Court certified that Spencer Curd was Clerk.

A letter in the file, written by a descendant stated that Leonard died 13 Oct 1842, and that his wife Tabitha drew pension after his death [there is no evidence she did so]. Another letter relates the story that Phoebe's parents came with Leonard West from Granville Co NC to Kentucky and that the elder Morgan and two of his sons were slain by Indians.

Strangely, there is listed next to Fielding West in Simpson Co KY in 1840, a Leonard West, age 60-70, with a probable spouse of the same age.
