Mahala Popwell
(Ca 1810 - 1841)
Heritage of Chilton County
Mahalia Popwell, born in South Carolina, married Elijah Mims, son of James G. Mims and Phariby Reynolds Mims, who came to this area with the Popwell-Baker family. Marriage records were not kept by the courts at the time when the families moved from Darlington to this area. Mahalia's daughter, Mary, listed on a later census that she was born 1825 in South Carolina which proves they were already married when they came here... Mahalia Popwell Mims is believed to be buried in an un-marked grave at Walnut Creek cemetery.
