Heritage of Chilton County
Elijah Mims was born around 1808 in South Carolina. His parents were James G. Mims and Feraba Reynolds (both from Darlington County, South Carolina). His paternal grandfather was Richard Mims. His maternal grandparents were Abraham Reynolds and Winiford... Elijah had 8 brothers and sisters: 1) Abraham (ca 1798-after 1860) married Lettice ... around 1819 in Darlington County, South Carolina. 2) Winniford (ca 1801-unknown) married Charles Headley. 3) James R. (ca 1805-ca1898) married Margaret ... and Elizabeth Baker. 4) Feraba (ca 1810- after 1860) married William Robinson. 5) Elizabeth (July 13, 1813 - April 10, 1893) married William Samuel Easterling, James Harvey, and James T. Kicker. 6) Mary Ann (ca 1815 - after 1870) married Newit Easterling and James Moates. 7) Sarah (1817-1850-56) married James J. Weldon. 8) George G. (ca 1819-after 1880) married Susah Popwell on Nov. 27, 1833. [perhaps 9 siblings - Edward was omitted]
Elijah had 2 wives: A) Mahalia Popwell was born around 1825 [1810 is more realistic] in South Carolina. Her parents were Reuben Popwell Sr., Margaret Charlotte Anderson and stepfather Stephen Baker...
Elijah's burial site is unknown. Mahalia is buried in an unmarked grave at Walnut Creek.

Note: The Chilton Co Heritage book in the article re James G. Mims, places a daughter - Rebecca A. b. 1830, married Andrew Baker in this family as the daughter of Elijah - she was not, she was the daughter of his older brother Abraham. Elijah's daughter Elizabeth who married Edward Rhodes was omitted.

The Obituary of grandson-in-law, Riley Robinson who was married to Rebecca Ann Savilla Mims, gave interesting information about the arrival of the families in Alabama:
Elijah Mims who with his Brothers Jimmie and Abram Mims settled here in 1828. They came from Charleston, South Carolina. Abram MIms was the Father of Abram C. Mims once Tax Assessor of Chilton County. Jimmie Mims was Grandfather of J. M. Mims former Commissioner. The three Mims Brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Baker--(Mrs. Baker was first married to Reuben Popwell and they had 2 Sons and four daughters and after the death of Reuben she then married Stephen Baker), and two Headley Families, and 1 Easterling Family and these all got together and left Darlington District, South Carolina and came to the present Clanton area 1828.

Uncited newspaper clipping in Ancestry Tree:
Besides Elijah Mims, coming from South Carolina to this section were his two brothers, Abram Mims and Jimmie Mims. Abram Mims, father of one-time Tax Assessor, Abram C. Mims, lived near where the hospital is now located. Jimmie Mims, grandfather of former county commissioner Jim Mims, settled down on Blue Creek near the river. From These Three original Mims families emanated practically all of the hundreds and hundreds of Memses now in Chilton County and central Alabama.
